Networking with your Vendors

This is our entry into the "Your Network is Your Net Worth! July Contest" sponsored by Praful Thakkar.

We are asked to write about who is in our network and how we 'work' our network.

There are many intricacies in the art of networking.  For the purposes of this post I'll focus on just a few networking opportunities that we all can leverage.

We all do business with other vendors, be it landscape maintenance, pool service and maintenance, medical and dental providers, and many more, that own their own businesses.

That's the key - networking with other vendors who own their own business - and therefore are the decision makers about what their business will and will not do.

We refer potential customers to our circle of vendors, so they know we value the service they provide to us.

In turn, they help promote our real estate business (and soon our aerial photography business) by permitting our marketing information in their waiting rooms, or distributing our marketing material to their other customers.

We tailor the marketing pieces they present to their customers to include a reference to them (the vendor) and make it clear in the marketing piece that the "special offer" is available due to the fact that they they are a customer of that particular vendor.

It costs them nothing, it offers their customers an additional benefit not otherwise available to them, and it  can generate incremental business for us with little expense or effort.

Every interaction with anyone - including vendors - is an opportunity to network and generate new business.  Make sure you leverage these opportunities by establishing your value proposition solidly, and then highlighting a win-win opportunity that can benefit both of you.
