A re-blog from the master BB. He was here when I arrived in 2006 - and is still going strong!
Hi folks. I wrote this post almost 4 years ago. At that time ActiveRain only had about 1,000 members. And already we were writing about how to blog!! I think the information is as relevant today as it was back then. What do you think?
I have read several post recently asking this question. It’s an excellent question but because it’s so subjective how do we know? I am new to this and have never had a weblog before becoming a member of ActiveRain so let me give you my thoughts from that perspective for whatever it’s worth.
It seems to me that to be relevant a blog must contain content that is interesting, original and related to our business in some way. The hard part is what may be interesting to me may not me interesting to you. And what is relevant to my Real Estate business may not be relevant to your business. Also, since these posts are available to the consumer it opens up a whole other area of what may be interesting or relevant.
I have found while reading through posts that after 11 days of joining Active Rain I am already attracted to certain members' blogs more than others and scroll down until I see their pictures (by the way the pictures were a great idea) to read their latest. So what makes these posters (bloggers?) stand out? For me it’s originality and content that I can apply to my business. “Copy and Paste” does not do it for me. Links I like. I like for the writers personality to show in the posts. I want to be able to “know” them by what and how they write.
My posts have been leaning more towards little stories about my experiences in Real Estate. Interesting? I hope so. Relevant? I think so. Original? I believe so. I have been sending them out to the people on my E-mail list and they seem to enjoy them. Except Eddie! But Eddie don't know squat!
I think getting comments on a post is a good thing whether positive or negative. At least then you know someone is reading it. Which I guess is the whole idea. So I’m hoping with more practice to get better at this and I’m looking forward to seeing how ActiveRain evolves. So that’s my opinion for whatever it’s worth (Matt seems to think it’s worth 200 points!). So what’s your opinion? Is your blog relevant?
