Ever need to grab an image or part of what you see on a computer screen but don’t know how? There are several ways to do that. The first is to do a screen capture. However, this gets the entire screen and you need to edit the image from there.
A better solution is Jing. Jing is a cool screen capture tool you can download for free. When Jing is running, you will see a yellow half globe at the top of your computer screen. To use Jing, do the following:
Have the photo, web page or whatever it is you want to grab a piece of open. Click the Yellow half globe. Click the + button that the red arrow is pointing at. You will see two likes that cross in the middle. Click and hold the mouse at one corner of what you want to copy and drag it to the other corner of what you want to copy and then release the mouse.
When you have the image, you need to click the select button, which is shown below – the red arrow is pointing at it.
After you have selected the image or text that you want, you will see buttons on the left. Hover your mouse over the others to see what they do.
Click the arrow to draw an arrow on the image. Click the T to add a text box. You can figure out the rest. At the bottom of the image, hover over the buttons to learn what they are.
Jing is a really great program you can use to snag bits of text or images to use in fliers, blog posts, emails, etc. If you download Jing and use it, don’t forget about copyright laws.
I use Jing to grab images form my Austin real estate blog, for emails and obviously for this AR blog post.
In case you're curious about the photo, that is my dad back in the 1950s in Alaska. I did some quick photo editing and made it look he was on the cover of an LL Bean catalogue. I sent it out to family and was amazed at how many people thought the cover was real!
