I've found some ancient drafts also - but I don't think any have been in draft mode since 2008! It's interesting to review posts from years gone buy. The specifics change but the fundamentals seem to remain the same!
Draft Mode: The Crock Pot of Blogging (30DC16)
Philip Faranda wrote a post titled List to Last. And in it, he mentioned that the topic of his post had been in draft mode since 2008. I didn't think that I was the only one that let my thoughts simmer in draft mode, but I had not let one stew in the pot quite that long.
When I come up with a great topic for post, it often starts with only a title. I'll start a post with nothing but a title and save it in draft mode. In the past if I hadn't developed the post over a period of several weeks, I would delete the draft. The 30 Day Blogging Challenge really helped me to see the lasting benefits of "holding that thought."
I would encourage everyone to make use of the draft feature to store burning topics until they have had time to fully
develop into a well thought out post. These drafts may develop as a result of:
- Other post that you've read
- Events that take place
- Something that you experience
- A Discussion that you had with someone
- Countless other sources
But the main source that sends my drafts into full throttle is an epiphany.
So if you have a great topic or title for a post, don't sweat it. Just hold it in draft and let it develop naturally: No matter how long it takes. I would much rather read a post that has taken a 1 year to complete than an hurried post that fails to make a point.
