Advice For Buyers - Know Your Credit Limit

So, it's time to buy a house.

The very first step should be to contact a reputable and reliable lender for pre-qualification / pre-approval - and no - the terms are not interchangeable.  (If you need a referral for a reputable and reliable lender in the Greater Phoenix and Scottsdale Metro Area - contact us.)

Why?

Because you need to know your "Credit Limit".

How much "house" can you afford?

Just as you would not head out to purchase any other "big ticket" item on a credit card without knowing what credit you have available, buying a house is an extremely large "big ticket" item.

Once you have completed that, your next move is to contact a reputable and reliable Real Estate Broker to help you with your purchase.

Hint: If an agent will take you home shopping without knowing what price you qualify for - you may want to re-think your choice of agent.

Excellent advice Tony and Suzanne.  Some buyers do not seem to understand the importance of making this the FIRST STEP in the buying process.  I do my best to educate buyers that contact me and if they are serious and ready to buy a property they shouldn't mind obtaining a pre-approval letter from their lender BEFORE we look at property.

Tony and Suzanne Marriott, Associate Brokers - You just can't say it enough - the first step in the buying process is to contact a Lender. I recently returned home via United and was squished between two very heavy men. One of them asked me what I did for a living and I told him. He started asking me questions that I could tell would lead to nowhere because he disclosed way too much personal financial information. Even though within seconds after beginning to divulge information, I told him the first step was to talk to a Lender he didn't listen and that I am not a Mortgage Lender, he didn't stop. I felt more like a Parrot than a Passenger until I closed my eyes and stopped talking.
